Arts Alive Weekend!

The second weekend in April is the big arts event of the year in downtown Mobile and things are off to a great start today! Art(ology) is showcasing a new show, "The Illumination of Color," which emphasizes the bold use of color across all mediums from jewelry to watercolors. Throughout the weekend there will be music venues with the South Sounds Music Festival, art booths in Cathedral Square with Arts Alive, and we will be having a sidewalk sale and be open extended hours.

Here is a group of students from Theodore High School who are called the "Sidewalk Artists." They decorate the sidewalks in Cathedral Square for Arts Alive and we were delighted to meet some up and coming young artists.

Our partners have been working hard to create some new pieces of artwork, spruce up the gallery, and begin planning for classes which will kick off this summer. If you are planning a visit to Mobile, make sure and add us to your "Must list!."

Candid shots of Artwalk tonight! The gallery was hopping!

Marsha and Michelle kept the checkout!

Some really wonderful students from Murphy High School popped in the gallery today and had a great time looking at all our art and Mardi Gras masks! We love it when local students visit down town and stop by.

Art(ology) Welcomes Phyllis Henson!

Art(ology) is super excited to introduce our newest partner, Phyllis Henson. Phyllis is a watercolorist, specializing in realistic representations of still life concepts, portraits, florals, animals, and recently won Best of Show from the Mobile Watercolor and Graphics Society in Mobile. As we celebrate the 7th Anniversary of LODA Artwalk, make plans to stop by Art(ology) and welcome Phyllis while catching a view of her beautiful works.

The gallery has been completely re-hung as well with new works by resident artists Ardith Goodwin, Marsha Sutton, Gail Rancier Wilson, Michelle Foreman Leech, Claire Noojin, Maria Robinson, Susan Wertelecki, and guest potter Maria Spies.

There are so many wonderful venues for Artwalk tonight and Art(ology) is thrilled to share such a great art event for our city with them!

Looking ahead: The Jewelry Show is on the horizon along with a new guests artist for August!

Maria Spies Berry Bowls

Maria Spies, one of our guests artists, creates beautiful stoneware pottery. Here is an image of her popular Berry Bowl, which is perfect for fresh, washed produce because the water drains through tiny holes in the bottom of the bowl. This would make a great gift for Mother's Day which is coming up soon! If you are coming out to celebrate Earth Day this Sunday at Cathedral Square come across the street and see us! We will be open from 11-2.

You can view more of Maria Spies pottery at her website HERE
